Amazon to eBay Listing Process – What to expect?

We understand how challenging it is for online sellers to manage inventory, handle listings and competing against millions of sellers. So, if you are planning to go try listing from Amazon to eBay, here is a few things you must read.

The competition has never been this tough. There are about 167 million users on eBay, out of which 25 million are eBay sellers listing 1 billion products at any given time. With such statistics, it is pretty clear that eBay is growing fast. So, if you are an Amazon seller looking to sell on eBay then keep reading because this guide will explain some do’s and don’ts.

1- Marketplace Behavior

Amazon is a buyer-oriented platform where it controls majority of the products and focuses on inviting buyers to their marketplace. eBay is more seller-oriented and sellers can choose to set-up auctions, fixed price listings and sell products at a reasonable price. Plus, eBay has a lot of tools available such as free reports, selling manager pro and file exchange.

2- Pricing

The pricing model for both of these companies is very different. Seller have to pay a flat fee of $.99 per item sold on Amazon. In addition, Amazon also keeps a percentage of the total sales price of an item, ranging from 6 to 25%. With eBay, sellers pay an insertion fee for listing items and 10% of an item’s sale price, up to a maximum of $250 per item. However, there are extra charges to add upgrades to your eBay listings.

3- eBay templates

For going Amazon to eBay, you will need eBay templates! eBay templates contain all your listing information such as title, description, pictures and custom specifics. A product can have up to 20 different listing templates which allows it to be listed it in many different ways. Sellers can still do so much with a listing template to make their listings stand out on eBay and catch buyer’s eyes. If you know how to design an eBay template properly, it can do wonders for your listings.

4- Auction Marketplace

The main challenge with Amazon is that they control their platform completely. Their model doesn’t give much control to sellers whereas eBay provides different selling formats. Sellers can create an auction item with a starting price and buyers can bid on the auctions. Sellers can also display a “Buy It Now” price for the same item for people who would like to buy it right away without having to wait for the auction to end.

5- Amazon To eBay Listing Management

Every marketplace has their own way of managing listings. Amazon uses a catalog-style management where you can use existing catalog pages and fill a few basic fields to list an item. When you start selling on eBay, you will need to have description and multiple images available for all your listings. eBay does have its own catalog but it is not as wide as Amazon’s.

To be fair, both have their own pros and cons but it’s the process you have to learn. Once you understand the difference between these two companies’ approaches, it will get easier and more consistent.
